So Much To See

They say the best things in life are free and that's certainly the case in Colac - a great city which is a fantastic jumping off point for endless fun, free days out.

Colac lies in the heart of some of the best touring country in Australia - not to mention the world. The Great Ocean Road is one of the best loved road journeys on earth, but most international and interstate visitors don't have the luxury of time to take in all that this fantastic region offers.

Life in Colac means you really can make the moment last and spend a whole day exploring just one of the shipwreck beaches, a deserted cove, or fishing one of the volcanic plain's vast lakes.

While you're getting to know the area you can rely on the Great Southern Touring Route, Shipwreck Trail, Otways Waterfalls, Volcanic Discovery Trail, or the Otways Gourmet Food and Wine Journey.

But before long you'll be taking off on your own discovery days, four-wheel driving through the bush, walking into tucked away waterfalls, watching platypus at play, spotting koalas and making the most of the Otways National Park.

Visiting friends and family will always be impressed with just how close you are to the iconic Twelve Apostles.

Here in Colac you can enjoy a leisurely lap around the city's Botanic Gardens, walk along the Lake Colac foreshore, or take a bike ride along the Old Beechy Rail Trail - a new walking/cycling track along a narrow gauge rail line which stretches all the way to Beech Forest.

And when you've soaked up as much of the great outdoors as you need to recharge your batteries, you might find yourself with an appetite for some organised fun or a taste of history.

One of the region's premier tourist attractions, the Otway Fly tree-top walk is a little over half an hour's drive from Colac.

Down on the coast you'll find the 150 year-old Cape Otway Lightstation and inland you can immerse yourself with the spirit of the gold rush at Ballarat, just over an hour's drive away.
